Send ENGAGE-S to teacher/parent prior to evaluation
Have you used the ENGAGE-S digital Questionnaire yet? It's a great way to expedite your evaluation. The ENGAGE-S allows a rater to report how the child participates in the selected setting. This information allows a therapist to see if there are any areas where the child is not participating fully. Perhaps the child's teacher reports adequate participation in self care, visual motor (written communication), and gross motor tasks, but low participation in tasks involving visual perception (such as reading). This helps a therapist understand that they may not need to focus as heavily on those areas of adequate participation.
However, we all know that development isn't that clean. A child may be participating in one area in a developmentally appropriate manner but still have some underlying functional deficits that create low participation in another area. For example, development occurs proximal to distal. What if a child has adequate participation in gross motor skills but low participation in visual perceptual skills? Skipping gross motor in your evaluation may not be indicated since gross motor skills (esp trunk stability) lay the development for visual perceptual skills. To help you out, O.T. Wizard will give suggestions of what domains should be included in your evaluation.
Getting this report is easy. After the rater has completed the ENGAGE-S, go to Report Wizard, click "Forms Analysis", select ENGAGE-S, and then generate. Use this report to give you inside information before starting the evaluation while also determining if the rater's information has low, moderate or high confidence level.
